Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

Candidates must be between 21 and 32 years of age as of 01/01/2026.
This means candidates must have been born not earlier than 2nd January 1994 and not later than 1st January 2005.
Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per government rules.

Educational Qualification

For Geologist Group 'A' (GSI): Master's degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo-Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Geochemistry.
For Geophysicist Group 'A' (GSI) & Scientist 'B' (Geophysics)/Assistant Geophysicist (CGWB): M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc. (Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics) or M.Sc (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Marine Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics).
For Chemist Group 'A' (GSI) & Scientist 'B' (Chemical) (CGWB): M. Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.
For Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology) & Assistant Hydrogeologist (CGWB): Master's degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology or Hydrogeology.
For Assistant Chemist Group 'B' (CGWB): Master of Science or Integrated Master of Science in Chemistry or related fields.

Selection Process

The selection process for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination will consist of three stages:

Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type, 400 Marks)
Stage-II: Main Examination (Descriptive Type, 600 Marks)
Stage-III: Personality Test / Interview (200 Marks)

How to Apply

Candidates must apply online through the official UPSC portal.

Visit the official UPSC application website: https://upsconline.nic.in.
First, complete the 'Account Creation' process on the new portal.
Generate your Universal Registration Number (URN). This is a one-time process.
Proceed to fill out the Common Application Form (CAF) with your basic details.
After completing the CAF, fill the Examination Specific Form for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination, 2026.
Upload a recent photograph (not more than 10 days old with your name and date on it), signature, and a scanned copy of your Photo ID.
Pay the application fee as applicable.
Submit the final application form and take a printout for future reference.
