Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

  • Candidates must be between 21 and 32 years of age as of 01/01/2026.
  • This means candidates must have been born not earlier than 2nd January 1994 and not later than 1st January 2005.
  • Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per government rules.

Educational Qualification

  • For Geologist Group 'A' (GSI): Master's degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo-Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Geochemistry.
  • For Geophysicist Group 'A' (GSI) & Scientist 'B' (Geophysics)/Assistant Geophysicist (CGWB): M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc. (Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics) or M.Sc (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Marine Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics).
  • For Chemist Group 'A' (GSI) & Scientist 'B' (Chemical) (CGWB): M. Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.
  • For Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology) & Assistant Hydrogeologist (CGWB): Master's degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology or Hydrogeology.
  • For Assistant Chemist Group 'B' (CGWB): Master of Science or Integrated Master of Science in Chemistry or related fields.

Selection Process

The selection process for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination will consist of three stages:

  1. Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type, 400 Marks)
  2. Stage-II: Main Examination (Descriptive Type, 600 Marks)
  3. Stage-III: Personality Test / Interview (200 Marks)

How to Apply

Candidates must apply online through the official UPSC portal.

  1. Visit the official UPSC application website: https://upsconline.nic.in.
  2. First, complete the 'Account Creation' process on the new portal.
  3. Generate your Universal Registration Number (URN). This is a one-time process.
  4. Proceed to fill out the Common Application Form (CAF) with your basic details.
  5. After completing the CAF, fill the Examination Specific Form for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination, 2026.
  6. Upload a recent photograph (not more than 10 days old with your name and date on it), signature, and a scanned copy of your Photo ID.
  7. Pay the application fee as applicable.
  8. Submit the final application form and take a printout for future reference.
