The West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC) has released the notification for the 27th State Eligibility Test (SET).
This is a mandatory eligibility test, not a direct recruitment drive, for candidates aspiring to become Assistant Professors in West Bengal colleges. With the exam scheduled for December 2025, applicants have a significant amount of time to prepare for the two-paper test.

Exam Details
This is a State Eligibility Test (SET) to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of Assistant Professor in West Bengal. It is not a recruitment drive for a specific number of vacancies. The top 6% of the candidates who appear for both papers of the SET will be declared qualified.

Application Fees
- General: Rs. 1400/-
- Other Backward Classes (Non-creamy layer)/EWS: Rs. 700/-

Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit
There is no upper age limit for applying for the SET.
Educational Qualification
- General/EWS Candidates: Must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Master's Degree or equivalent examination from a UGC-recognized university/institution.
- OBC (Non-creamy layer)/SC/ST/PWD/Transgender Candidates: Must have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in their Master's Degree or equivalent.
- Candidates who are pursuing their Master's degree (final year) or are awaiting their results are also eligible to apply.
Selection Process
The selection process is based on performance in the State Eligibility Test (SET), which consists of two papers:
- Paper-I: 100 Marks (50 questions) - To assess teaching/research aptitude, reasoning ability, comprehension, and general awareness.
- Paper-II: 200 Marks (100 questions) - Based on the subject selected by the candidate.
To be considered for eligibility, candidates must appear in both papers and secure a minimum aggregate of 40% (for General/EWS) or 35% (for reserved categories). The top 6% of appearing candidates will be declared qualified based on a merit list prepared for each subject and category.
How to Apply
- Visit the official WBCSC website: www.wbcsconline.in.
- Before applying, ensure you have scanned copies of your passport-size photograph (4kb-40kb) and signature (4kb-30kb) in JPG format.
- Fill out the online application form with all the required details accurately.
- Proceed to the payment gateway and pay the examination fee using a credit card, debit card, or internet banking.
- After successful payment, a confirmation page will be generated.
- It is not required to send a hard copy of the application form to the WBCSC, but you should keep a printout of the confirmation page for your records.
